ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT JABAL ABU QUBAIS — THE MOUNTAIN BESIDE THE HARAM

by admin

Have you ever noticed the mountain beside Masjid al-Haram?

The one rising near Safa, just beside the Ka’bah?

Its name is Jabal Abu Qubais.

And there are some stories about this mountain that many pilgrims have never heard.

Some historical accounts say Adam AS was buried there.

Others say Ibrahim AS stood upon it when he called people to Hajj, after Allah commanded him:

“And proclaim the Hajj to the people…”

Surah Al-Hajj 22:27

But there is another story.

A story that takes us back to the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

When the people of Quraysh demanded a sign, Allah showed them the splitting of the moon.

The Qur’an tells us:

“The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.”

Surah Al-Qamar 54:1

Some Seerah accounts say that the moon appeared split, with one part above Jabal Abu Qubais and the other above Qu’aiqi’an, the mountain on the opposite side.

Imagine the people of Makkah that night.

Standing there. Looking up.

Witnessing something they would never forget.

Today, when you look toward this mountain, you see a royal palace standing above it.

Makkah has changed so much over the centuries.

But the mountain is still there.

And the next time you stand before the Ka’bah, perhaps you will look at it differently.

Because now, you know its name.

And some of the stories it carries.

Historical note: The Qur’an confirms Ibrahim AS’s call to Hajj and the splitting of the moon during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The specific connection of these events to Jabal Abu Qubais, and the claim about Adam AS being buried there, come from historical accounts and traditions whose authenticity varies.
