The Pakistani prime minister has said that the security of the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina is a red line that cannot be crossed.
While addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his country’s full support for Saudi Arabia and condemned the Houthi attacks on the country.
He added that the Mecca agreement does not mean a single country, but rather shows a common determination to bring peace to the region.
He also called for the continued opening of the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab to ensure free shipping and trade.
The prime minister also said that Pakistan has taken urgent steps through diplomatic cooperation and other mediation efforts to reach an agreement to end the crisis plaguing the Arab region.
