An Iranian official said flights taking the country’s pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj will begin on May 5.

Akbar Rezaei, the deputy of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, make the announcement in a convention of clerics selected to serve the Iranian Hajj pilgrims.

He said 85,000 Hajj pilgrims will be sent to Saudi Arabia in the form of 598 convoys this year.

Of this number, 60% of the pilgrims will go to Medina first, while 40% will visit Medina after the Hajj rituals, he noted.

The departures of the pilgrims will take place from 21 airports in Iran, heading to the airports in Jeddah and Medina, the official stated.

He added that despite extensive efforts to send pilgrims to the Taif Airport, this will not be realized due to certain operational obstacles during the Hajj pilgrimage of 2025.

Rezaei noted that Iranian pilgrims will spend five nights and six days in Medina.

Flights will begin on the 8th of Dhul-Qa’dah, corresponding to May 15, and the outbound phase will continue until June 10, he said.

“The last return flight from Saudi Arabia to Iran will be on July 10.”

Rezaei added that for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, the average duration of pilgrims’ stay will be around 33 days.

The transportation of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia will take place over a period of 25 flight days, and the return operation from Saudi Arabia to Iran will be conducted over 21 flight days, he went on to say.

The Hajj is a religious duty that must be fulfilled at least once by all Muslims who are able to do so. The pilgrimage involves a series of rituals performed over four days in and around Mecca, located in western Saudi Arabia.
