The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Saleh has said that Nigerian intending pilgrims for Hajj 2025 will get a Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) of $500 just like last year’s pilgrims.
NAHCON had announced last week a final Hajj fare for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage without announcing the BTA contrary to similar exercises in the past.
However, Professor Pakistan in an interview with DCL Hausa, said, “The fare is the same as last year, which is $500 per pilgrim”. The chairman also responded to a question regarding why most pilgrims of Hajj 2024 did not receive the $500 BTA as announced.
He attributed the reasons for the failure to the states’ Pilgrims’ Boards and agencies to deposit funds early for conversion at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
“Sharing the BTA is actually the responsibility of states and the commission had sent the money to them early but most of them delayed converting the Naira to dollar and because of the fluctuations in foreign exchange, many pilgrims could not get up to the required $500,” he said
