A team of reporters from HAJJ REPORTERS on Wednesday took a tour of the kitchen facilities of Shuraka’a Alkhair the caterer in charge of providing meals to pilgrims from eleven states in Nigeria.

The kitchen, operating under the name Al Zumurrud serves states such as Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Oyo, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Ondo and Sokoto states.

Our team, alongside the Executive Secretary of Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam AbdulRahaman Ibrahim Idris was taken round the facility by the manager, Bashir Ahmad who informed us that each state they serve brings their own chef to work alongside local staff to meet the expectations of pilgrims from the states.

Imam AbdulRahaman said the Kitchen is currently serving Bauchi state pilgrims and so far, they have been living up to the expectations of pilgrims from the state. He said he personally monitored the supply of food to the state pilgrims.

Among the facilities toured include freezer rooms used to store chicken and beef separately. There were also separate rooms for processing beef, Chicken and vegetables.

We were also taken to the dry store room where rice, Semovita and other foodstuff such as Maggi and Kuka imported from Nigeria were kept.

In the kitchen proper we met the senior chef by the name Zainab who is from Nigeria and working alongside 8 other female chefs all from Nigeria preparing meals for pilgrims.

According to Mr Ahmad, the kitchen prepares about 70,000 meals each day and apart from the eleven Nigerian states, they also serve pilgrims from the Cameron Republic.

He informed HAJJ REPORTERS that the company pays attention to every detail to meet the expectations of pilgrims hence the lack of complaints regarding their meals throughout the Hajj operations this year.
