Nigeria Targets Global Aviation Partnerships as Keyamo Meets OEMs in Egypt
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, held high-level engagements with leading aviation Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other key industry stakeholders on the sidelines of the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt.
The meetings provided an opportunity for Nigeria to explore areas of technical and strategic collaboration with global aviation companies, particularly in the upgrading of aviation facilities, equipment and systems across the country.
The engagements come as the government seeks to address infrastructure and operational challenges in the aviation sector while improving safety, efficiency and service delivery.
Keyamo said discussions with the global aviation players were aimed at identifying opportunities that could support the long-term development of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
“The occasion afforded us the opportunity to meet major OEMs from around the world and engage in discussions regarding upgrading our aviation infrastructure across the country.
“These engagements are important as we continue to position Nigeria’s aviation industry for greater efficiency, safety, competitiveness and sustainable growth.”
The minister’s meetings with the OEMs are expected to deepen Nigeria’s relationship with major manufacturers and other international aviation stakeholders, while opening up opportunities for technical cooperation and the adoption of modern aviation technologies.
Beyond infrastructure development, Keyamo also held discussions with a delegation from Saudi Arabia on preparations for the 2027 Hajj airlift.
The talks centred on the need for early planning and stronger coordination of the air transportation arrangements for Nigerian pilgrims travelling to and from Saudi Arabia during the annual pilgrimage.
Particular attention was given to ensuring that the aviation component of the 2027 Hajj is better organised, with adequate planning between the relevant Nigerian authorities and their Saudi counterparts.
Keyamo stressed the importance of beginning preparations well ahead of the pilgrimage season, noting that early coordination would be essential to ensuring a smoother and more efficient transportation process for Nigerian pilgrims.
The minister’s engagements in Egypt therefore combined two important priorities for Nigeria’s aviation sector: securing partnerships that can accelerate infrastructure modernisation and beginning preparations early for one of the country’s largest annual international passenger movements.
The El Alamein International Airshow brought together major players from the global aerospace and aviation industry, providing Nigeria with a platform to engage directly with manufacturers, technology providers and other critical stakeholders.
For Nigeria, the government’s participation also offered an opportunity to strengthen international aviation partnerships and explore solutions capable of supporting the country’s ambition for a safer, more efficient and globally competitive air transport industry.
