Saudi Arabia Makes Clearance Permit Mandatory for Travelers Carrying Controlled Drugs

by admin

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has announced that all travellers entering the Kingdom with controlled medicines must obtain a clearance permit before their journey.

According to the SFDA, the process begins with creating an account on the Controlled Drugs System (CDS), where applicants must fill in their personal details and submit a clearance request, specifying whether the medication is for themselves or another patient.

Travellers are required to upload supporting documents, including a photograph of the medication, a valid ID, a prescription or medical report, and any additional proof if necessary. Details of the drug—such as trade name, active ingredient, concentration, dosage form, and quantity – must also be provided.

The application can then be tracked online, with statuses ranging from “Submitted” to “Completed,” “Rejected,” or “Incomplete.” Once approved, travellers must print the permit to present upon arrival.

Saudi authorities stressed that the measure is aimed at regulating the entry of controlled drugs and ensuring the safety of both travellers and the wider public.
