NEWS: Sokoto Constitutes Media Committee for 2026 Hajj

The Sokoto State Government has constituted a Media and Publicity Committee to coordinate information management for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

 

Director General, Media and Publicity to the state government, Abubakar Bawa, charged members of the committee to work diligently and collaboratively to ensure a successful pilgrimage.

 

Bawa gave the charge during a joint meeting with heads of media organisations and members of the committee, stressing that their selection was based strictly on merit in line with the directive of Governor Ahmad Aliyu.

 

He urged the members to justify the confidence reposed in them by discharging their responsibilities with professionalism and dedication.

 

Secretary of the committee and Head of Information and Communications at the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Faruku Umar, outlined the committee’s mandate. He said it includes pre-Hajj publicity and enlightenment campaigns, comprehensive news coverage during the exercise, establishment of a media centre in Minna, and timely dissemination of information to the people of Sokoto State on Hajj activities in Saudi Arabia.

 

The committee is chaired by Muhammad Umar, former General Manager of The Path Newspaper, with Faruku Umar serving as secretary. Other members are Lawal Isah Maranawa, Abdulrashid Wadata Buhari, and Ibrahim Hussaini.

 

The meeting was attended by Managing Director of Sokoto State Media Corporation, Labaran Lumu Dundaye, and General Manager of Alu Television Nigeria, Bashar Abubakar.
