The Niger State Government has announced the appointment of the Emir and Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Barau Mu’azu II, as the Amirul Hajj for the 2027 pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The appointment was announced on Tuesday in Minna by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, on behalf of the Niger State Government.
The SSG said the appointment was based on the Emir’s exemplary leadership, deep knowledge of Islam, integrity and fatherly disposition, as well as his commitment to the welfare and unity of the people.
As Amirul Hajj, the Emir is expected to provide spiritual leadership, guidance and moral support to the state’s Pilgrims’ before, during and after the pilgrimage, while working closely with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and successful Hajj operation.
Governor Bago described the choice of the traditional ruler as deliberate, citing his wealth of experience, maturity and commitment to public service and the welfare of the people.
The Governor expressed confidence that the Emir’s leadership would contribute to effective coordination of Niger State Pilgrims’ and encourage them to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of Niger State and Nigeria throughout the pilgrimage.
In response, the Emir of Kontagora expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with the Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, led by its Executive Secretary, Muhammad Awwal Aliyu, to ensure that the state pilgrims’ receive quality services and perform an acceptable Hajj.
He urged intending pilgrims’ to abide by the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the guidelines issued by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board.
The Emir also called on the pilgrims’ to use the opportunity of the spiritual journey to pray for peace, stability and sustainable development in Niger State and Nigeria.
The Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board congratulates His Royal Highness on his appointment and wishes him a successful tenure as Amirul Hajj.
