Locally Produced Hajj and Umrah Souvenirs Ready to Enter the Global Market

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia are seizing a major business opportunity by supplying domestically produced Hajj and Umrah souvenirs.

While opening the 2026 MSME and Hajj & Umrah Ecosystem Expo at the Sudirman Grand Mosque in Denpasar on Saturday, Indonesian Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf encouraged MSMEs to ensure that pilgrim spending stimulates the domestic economy rather than flowing abroad.

This initiative aims to make things easier for Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, eliminating the need to carry heavy loads when returning from the Holy Land. Pilgrims can now order signature souvenirs from local providers for direct delivery to their home addresses.

Beyond easing the burden of luggage, this initiative opens doors for local MSME products to penetrate international markets. The quality and packaging of various processed goods—such as dates, raisins, and nuts—as well as religious worship supplies, are being continuously upgraded to meet global standards.

Through relevant ministries, the government continues to foster the strengthening of the halal industry ecosystem and MSMEs, enabling them to compete within the global supply chain. This support encompasses assistance with halal certification and quality standardization, as well as access to capital and strategic partnerships.

Synergy among business players, Hajj and Umrah organizer associations, and the government is considered key to expanding the market reach of Indonesian products in Saudi Arabia and other nations.

By optimizing this supply chain, the economic potential derived from Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages is expected to deliver tangible, positive impacts on the welfare of MSMEs across the country. []
