The Vice Chairman of the Borno State Hajj Commission, Hon. Alhaji Haruna Kukawa, has resigned from his position.
Kukawa submitted his voluntary resignation letter to the Borno State Governor on August 17, 2026, according to a statement issued on the development.
He also handed over the property and other belongings of the commission in his possession to its Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Musa Yunusa.
Kukawa was appointed Vice Chairman of the commission in March 2025 and resigned about 17 months after assuming office.
The former lawmaker is a prominent politician in Borno State, having served in various political capacities at the state and local government levels.
He represented Kukawa constituency in the Borno State House of Assembly for three terms.
According to the statement, Kukawa declined to seek re-election for a fourth term in the 2023 election.
It described him as a respected politician known for hard work, intelligence and discipline, adding that he would not compromise his principles in the discharge of his responsibilities.
In his resignation letter, Kukawa thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and wished him success in his administration and the Hajj Commission.
The statement did not disclose the reason for his resignation.
Kukawa’s resignation comes ahead of preparations for the next Hajj season, with the commission expected to continue its activities under the leadership of its Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Musa Yunusa.
