The Edo State Government has formed a 26-member Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board as it prepares for the 2027 Hajj. According to a government special announcement, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Edo State’s executive governor, approved the board, which was signed by Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor, secretary to the state government.
Alhaji Musa Uduimo was appointed Chairman of the board, while Abdulkarib Eranga was named Secretary. Other members include Alhaji Abdul Aziz Igbinidu, Hajia Usenatu Edo Esohe, Alhaji Musa Isiwe, Hajia Mrs. Rabi Abiri, Ahmed Evbareke, Mallam Naasir Usman and Sheikh Sirajudeen Muhammed.
The board also includes Mallam Omosa Shittu Musa, Sh. Abdul-Ali Abdulrahman Momoh, Mallam Ismail Ibrahim, Alhaji Muhammed Okotiki, Alhaji Buhari Aideghese, Mallam Abdullahi Aminu, Hajia Zuliatu Bello Osagie, Adams Inusa Ohiokhamhele and Sanni Muhammad. Others are Mulikat Iyoha Oare, Mallam Uthman Abu, Mallam Hassan Mahadi, Alhaji Prince Isah Momodu, Mallam Mukhtar Abdulkadir, Prince Afe Aliru Momoh, Abdul Rahman Momoh JP and Arc. Mamud Oyaremi.
The new board is expected to take responsibility for the coordination and administration of Muslim pilgrimage affairs in the state, including pilgrim registration, education and sensitisation, screening, logistics, accommodation, transportation and welfare. Its constitution comes as preparations for the 2027 Hajj gather momentum, with state pilgrims’ welfare agencies expected to meet various regulatory, documentation and operational requirements ahead of the pilgrimage.
The Edo State Government said the board would be inaugurated by Governor Okpebholo on a date to be announced later.
The development is expected to provide the institutional structure for the state’s 2027 Hajj programme and strengthen coordination of services for intending and returning pilgrims
