Hajj administrators from the states and officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) are expected to converge in Saudi Arabia for high-level pre-Hajj meetings as preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage enter a critical stage.
The meetings are expected to focus on offshore pre-Hajj activities, including engagements with Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, service providers and the activation of accommodation arrangements for Nigerian pilgrims.
Hajj Reporters gathered that executives of state Muslim pilgrims’ welfare boards and NAHCON officials are expected to use the meetings to interface with relevant Saudi service providers and advance preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage.
However, the issue of Nigeria’s Hajj quota may also feature prominently at the meetings, as some state pilgrims’ welfare board executives are reportedly seeking renewed pressure on the Saudi authorities to approve additional slots for Nigerian pilgrims.
The development comes against the backdrop of growing demand for Hajj slots, with concerns that the current allocation may not be sufficient to accommodate all intending pilgrims.
Meanwhile, registration for the 2027 Hajj officially closed on Saturday, September 26, leaving hundreds of intending pilgrims who could not secure slots stranded.
The closure marks another major milestone in preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage, while administrators now face the task of consolidating arrangements for pilgrims already registered.
The Saudi meetings are therefore expected to provide an opportunity for Nigerian Hajj authorities and state boards to address outstanding pre-Hajj arrangements, particularly accommodation, service-provider engagements and the possibility of securing additional slots.
As the process advances, stakeholders are expected to maintain close coordination to ensure that the remaining contractual and operational deadlines are met ahead of the 2027 Hajj season.
