Ithra Hospitality Holding has announced the launch of a new environmental initiative, “Million Bottles,” for the Hajj 2025 season (1446 AH).
The initiative, which was unveiled during the opening of the Hajj and Umrah Conference and Exhibition 2025, is a collaboration with Sorting Technology Solutions and several key official entities, including the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the National Waste Management Center (Mwan), and the Municipality of Makkah.
According to the company, “This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, focusing on sustainability and environmental preservation while advancing social and economic goals.
The “Million Bottles” initiative aims to mitigate the environmental impact of plastic waste in the holy sites by implementing source-separation and recycling of plastic bottles. It also seeks to raise environmental awareness among both pilgrims and the local community, encouraging volunteerism and fostering a sense of citizenship. The initiative is expected to reduce waste sent to landfills and promote the use of eco-friendly alternatives, reflecting the company’s dedication to providing sustainable solutions that enhance the pilgrimage experience.
The initiative will be rolled out in the Arafat area within the holy sites, where dedicated bins for sorting plastic bottles will be placed in pilgrims’ service centers. Specialized teams will oversee the regular collection of sorted materials to ensure operational efficiency. Additionally, media campaigns will raise awareness about recycling, in collaboration with local and international platforms.
Through this initiative, Ithra Hospitality Holding empowers pilgrims to contribute to environmental preservation and participate in creating a sustainable Hajj experience. It aims to influence more conscious waste management practices among pilgrims, which will help maintain the cleanliness of the holy sites and improve service quality.
The company emphasized that “Million Bottles” marks the beginning of further environmental projects, aimed at promoting sustainability and fostering social responsibility. It concluded by reaffirming its unwavering commitment to serving pilgrims and expressing its intent to expand the initiative in future years to enhance its positive impact.
