The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Wednesday officially flagged off the vaccination exercise for intending pilgrims from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2025 Hajj. The ceremony took place at the FCT Pilgrims Hajj Camp, Airport Road, Abuja, with the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Sale, leading the initiative.

Speaking at the event, Professor Sale emphasized the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of Nigerian pilgrims, describing the vaccination as a critical step in the preparations for a successful Hajj.

“This event marks a vital step in our journey toward a successful 2025 Hajj,” he said. “Ensuring the health of our pilgrims is not just a requirement; it is our responsibility.”

The NAHCON Chairman called on all intending pilgrims to cooperate fully with health officials, adhere to all medical guidelines, and actively participate in scheduled Hajj enlightenment sessions to prepare spiritually, mentally, and physically for the sacred journey.

In a symbolic show of leadership, Professor Sale personally administered the first vaccine dose to one of the pilgrims, reinforcing the Commission’s proactive and hands-on approach.

Before the vaccination began, Dr. Dan Gazama, Director of Public Health, briefed the pilgrims on the vaccines being administered. He stated that the meningitis, oral polio, and yellow fever vaccines are mandatory under Saudi Arabian health regulations. He also advised pilgrims on possible side effects and urged them to seek medical attention if symptoms persisted.

“These vaccinations are essential to both individual and public health,” Dr. Gazama explained. “Without them, pilgrims will not be granted entry into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

The event was graced by other dignitaries, including NAHCON Commissioner (PRSILS), Prof. Abubakar Abubakar Yagawal, Board Member Dr. Saidu Dunbulwa, Secretary of the Commission Dr. Mustapha, and several heads of divisions, all of whom underscored the significance of the exercise.

The well-coordinated exercise was praised for its efficiency and organization, bolstering public confidence in NAHCON’s readiness for the 2025 pilgrimage.

The Abuja flag-off marks the beginning of a nationwide vaccination campaign for all Nigerian pilgrims, as NAHCON continues its mission to ensure a safe, seamless, and spiritually fulfilling Hajj experience for all.
