Namirah Mosque. The mosque at Arafat where the Imam delivers the Hajj sermon (Khutbah) on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, the Day of Arafah.

This is where millions of pilgrims gather before the most critical day of Hajj begins. Before they spread across the plains of Arafat to stand in du’a until sunset, they first gather at Namirah Mosque to listen to the Khutbah.

The sermon reminds pilgrims of the significance of the day, the importance of seeking Allah’s ﷻ forgiveness, and the mercy that descends upon Arafat. The Imam references the Farewell Sermon of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who stood on these same plains over 1,400 years ago.

After the Khutbah, Dhuhr and Asr prayers are combined and shortened. Then the pilgrims disperse across the plains, standing with hands raised, seeking Allah’s ﷻ mercy until the sun sets.

Namirah Mosque marks the beginning of the Day of Arafah, the day the Prophet ﷺ said: “Hajj is Arafah.”
