The Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has confirmed the death of one of its 2026 pilgrims, Hajiya Rukayya Haliru, in the holy city of Makkah.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Mallam Idris Ahmad Almakura, disclosed the incident to newsmen in Makkah.
Mallam Idris Almakura explain that the late Hajiya Rukayya Haliru who held from Keffi local government aged 70 complained of illness and Despite medical efforts, she breathed her last this morning describing it’s as a huge loss to all.
The Executive Secretary of the board alongside other officials and family members of the deceased, were present at the hospital to oversee the preparation and movement of her remains to the Grand Mosque in Makkah for the performance of the Janazah (funeral) prayer, a solemn Islamic rite for the deceased.
He also advised other pilgrims to prioritize their health and report any symptoms early to the medical teams attached to the board.
The Executive Secretary extended the board’s condolences to the Nasarawa State government, the immediate family of Hajiya Rukayya Haliru, and the entire staff and management of the pilgrims’ welfare board.
In an interview with one of the relative of the deceased, Abdulwab Aboki who also witness the entire process expressed the family’s appreciation to the board for its support and transparency throughout the difficult process.
