Hajj and Umrah Exhibition conference DAY 4:
At the Hajj Conference and Exhibition, held from 13 to 16 January, the director general of the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services branch in Makkah Region Eng. Khalid Al-Otaibi showcased significant projects aimed at serving the pilgrims.
His presentation focused on the critical role of road infrastructure, starting from entry points, in enhancing transportation efficiency.
Eng. Al-Otaibi detailed advancements in infrastructure and road networks, emphasizing innovative projects like the surface cooling initiative, the development of flexible rubber asphalt, and the application of white coating on pedestrian walkways at holy sites.
These efforts are designed to enhance the pilgrims’ experience, with expansion plans set for Hajj season 1446 AH.
He also described the construction of a 300-meter pedestrian crossing beneath the Eastern Ring Road in Arafat, which separates pedestrian and vehicle traffic to facilitate movement and improve safety for pilgrims.
Among the notable road projects completed in the Makkah region in 2024 were a single road stretching 18.6 km, a dual road of 231 km, an expressway of 34.2 km, and 33 bridges. Ongoing projects include the dualization of the Al-Jumum Al-Zima Road, 59 km completed at 83%, and the Bisha/Ranyah/Al-Khurmah Road to Taif/Riyadh Expressway, totaling 313 km, which has been completed.
In conclusion, Eng. Al-Otaibi underlined the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services’ commitment to enhancing the visual landscape, improving road service efficiency and quality, reducing traffic congestion, and increasing safety standards.
