Three people have been killed and 36 others injured following attacks on two airports in Saudi Arabia, according to the Kingdom’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
The attacks targeted Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 6 and 7.
At Abha International Airport, two female residents, nationals of Morocco and Algeria, were killed, while 28 people sustained injuries.
At King Khalid International Airport, a Sudanese resident was killed and eight others were injured.
GACA said the injured victims sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transferred to hospitals for medical attention.
The attacks also caused material damage at the affected airports.
The authority said relevant agencies were assessing the situation and implementing necessary security and safety measures to protect passengers, workers and aviation facilities.
The attacks come amid renewed tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Saudi authorities have not indicated any disruption to the wider operations of the country’s airports beyond the affected facilities.
Meanwhile, the Saudi authorities have continued to coordinate security and emergency response measures following the incidents.
