As part of efforts to ensure the health and safety of Nigerian pilgrims during the 2025 Hajj, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has concluded plans to deploy its advance National Medical Team to Saudi Arabia on April 30.
The development was disclosed by the Chairman of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman Pakistan, in an exclusive interview with Freedom Radio, Kaduna.
According to Professor Pakistan, the early departure of the medical team at least nine days ahead of the arrival of the first batch of Nigerian pilgrims is to ensure the team is fully prepared to address any potential health issues upon the pilgrims’ arrival and throughout the pilgrimage period.
He stated that the advance team would oversee the stocking of Nigerian medical clinics in both Makkah and Madinah, ensuring that they are equipped with essential medications and medical supplies tailored to the specific health needs of Nigerian pilgrims.
The NAHCON Chairman emphasized that essential drugs not available or manufactured in Saudi Arabia would be freighted from Nigeria, highlighting the Commission’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services.
“NAHCON is leaving no stone unturned in safeguarding the wellbeing and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims,” he assured.
He urged all pilgrims with pre-existing health conditions to disclose their medical history for proper documentation and preparation, including provision of medications and necessary medical advice.
In addition, he called on state pilgrims welfare boards and related agencies to educate pilgrims about the importance of avoiding unnecessary exposure to the harsh weather conditions, especially due to the forecasted heatwave during this year’s Hajj.
“Pilgrims should avoid loitering or wandering aimlessly to protect themselves from heat stroke and sunburn,” he advised.
The proactive deployment of the medical team underscores NAHCON’s dedication to a safe, organized, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.
