Ruling on the Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada’)

by admin

For pilgrims coming from outside the Miqat area (Afaqi), Farewell Tawaf is wajib (necessary) in all three types of Hajj.

It is the Tawaf performed before leaving Makkah as a final farewell to the Ka’bah.

Its time begins after Tawaf al-Ziyarah, once a person has firmly decided to return home. If a pilgrim performs any voluntary Tawaf after Tawaf al-Ziyarah, that Tawaf can also count as the Farewell Tawaf.

Therefore, if someone performs a nafl Tawaf after Tawaf al-Ziyarah, the obligation of Tawaf al-Wada’ is fulfilled. However, it is more virtuous to perform a separate Tawaf with the intention of Farewell Tawaf at the actual time of departure, so that the final meeting is with the House of Allah.

It is also permissible to perform more Tawaf after that, and whichever Tawaf is the last one before leaving will be considered the Farewell Tawaf.
