Preparations for the 2025 Hajj are in full swing, with 1,700 intending pilgrims from Sokoto State having made their initial deposits. The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has secured accommodation in Mecca and Medina, finalized catering services, and arranged comfortable camp facilities for pilgrims. The state has remitted over ₦5 billion to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) so far.
However, the agency’s acting secretary, Ladan Ibrahim, has expressed concern that many intending pilgrims, particularly from rural areas, struggle to meet the payment deadline. Sokoto State has been allocated 5,216 Hajj slots by NAHCON, and Ladan appealed for a deadline extension of at least two weeks to allow more pilgrims to complete their payments.
“In the past, we were allowed to make payments even after Ramadan. We are confident that with a brief extension, all allocated slots will be fully subscribed,” Ladan stated.
The agency is also in discussions with the state government to provide additional financial support to assist pilgrims in meeting their obligations. Last year, the governor provided financial assistance to pilgrims, and the agency is hopeful that similar support will be available this year.
Ladan reassured intending pilgrims that the agency remains committed to ensuring a smooth and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all participants from Sokoto State.
“We urge NAHCON to consider our request for a deadline extension, and we appreciate the support of the state government in our efforts to facilitate a successful Hajj experience for our pilgrims,” Ladan added.
