Sokoto State governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has fulfilled his pledge to reward academic excellence by awarding a Hajj seat to the overall best graduating student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The beneficiary, Abdullahi Sheriff of the Department of Microbiology, emerged as the university’s best graduating student for the session. The governor had announced the donation of the Hajj seat during the institution’s last convocation ceremony.
In fulfillment of the pledge, the permanent secretary of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Ibrahim Umar JJ, formally presented the Hajj seat allocation letter to Sheriff during a brief ceremony at his office.
Umar congratulated the awardee on his outstanding academic performance and commended the governor for his continued support for education and youth development in the state, while offering prayers for a successful Hajj exercise.
The gesture has been widely praised as an effort to motivate students to pursue excellence and uphold the values of hard work and dedication.
