Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has increased the Sallah bonus given to pilgrims of the state during Eid-el Kabeer while in Saudi Arabia for Hajj exercise.
The Director General, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Laminu Rabi’u Danbappa disclosed this at stakeholders meeting for the inauguration of 2024 Hajj Operational Committees, held at Central Hotel in Kano on Monday.
The theme of the meeting is; Towards Hitch Free and Effective Welfare Service Delivery To Kano State Pilgrims.
Danbappa said the governor approved the increment by 100 percent, from SR50 to SR100 to all the 3110 pilgrims and officials.
He said the bonus was SR50 since when the former governor of the state, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso increased it during his second stint as a governor.
“Now His Excellency has deemed it fit to increase it in view of the high exchange rate and the fact that this year’s BTA has been reduced.
“I therefore use this opportunity to thank the governor for this gesture and to commend him for his maximum support to us to see the success of this year’s Hajj operation,” he said.
The DG also disclosed that Interim Chairman of Gezawa Local Government has donated N100,000 to all the intending pilgrims from the local government, while those of Tofa and Rimin-Gado gifted SR100 to each and every pilgrim from the LGAs.
The DG also states that barring last-minute change, the first airlift of the state’s intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia is on May 24th, urging them to be ready in order to avoid missing the flights.
He tasked the officials of the board to work tirelessly towards the success of the Hajj operation.
According to him, the board would not condone indolence in discharging duty as they are chosen by Allah to go and serve His guests, adding that those that perform well would be rewarded while those that were poor wpild be punished.
He also cautioned the intending pilgrims to utilize the reduced Basic Travel Allowance, BTA, of $500 given to them while they are in Saudi Arabia.
He also announced that the enlightenment programmes for this year’s Hajj would be rounded up
