Jo’aar is derived from an Arabic root that means raising one’s voice in imploration or supplication. Supplicating to Allah The Almighty in a loud voice is called Jo’aar. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {They are crying [to Allah] for help.} [Quran 23:64]
Jo’aar in Hajj is exclusive to Talbiyah. In a Hadeeth, the Prophet said: “It is as if I am watching Moosa (Moses) making Jo’aar, entreating his Lord with Talbiyah.” The Prophet also said: “Jibreel (Gabriel) came to me and said, ‘O Muhammad! Order your Companions to raise their voices in Talbiyah; it is one of the symbols of Hajj.”
