How New Madinah Project will Enrich Cultural, Spiritual Experience of Pilgrims

In line with Saudi Arabia‘s urban renaissance, the Knowledge Economic City project in Madinah is providing quality housing and hospitality services with the Islamic World District project. With the aim of enriching cultural and religious experiences in one of the holiest cities for Muslims, the project is integral to the development of Madinah.

The district will be constructed over an area of 900,000 square meters adjacent to the Haramain High-Speed Railway Station and directly connected with the Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah and the Prophet’s Mosque. Keeping in line with the Pilgrim Experience Program and the Quality-of-Life Program – two of the main pillars of Saudi Vision 2023 – the project will facilitate the accommodation of more Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. It also seeks to provide them with high-quality services alongside entertainment for families, with live events, theaters, exhibitions, and festivals.

Key objectives of the project include providing permanent housing, hospitality, and lodging services. Another integral aspect will be the inclusion of pedestrian walkways that link all parts of the site – green spaces, event venues, an interactive museum of the Prophet’s biography, shopping centers, open squares, eco-friendly educational and health facilities that employ modern technology, and more.

The project is expected to be a cultural landmark and an investment catalyst as it introduces 18,000 hotel rooms upon completion, eco-friendly modes of transportation, and most importantly, jobs for young men and women. With the spiritual significance of Madinah and the thousands of pilgrims that make their way to the city every year, the project is already considered to be heading towards success.
