Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a special welfare package for Haruna Bashir, whose wife and six children were killed in the Chiranci Dorayi area of the state.
The decision was made public in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, after a condolence visit to the family.
The victims, Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children, were attacked in their home on Saturday. Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident, including Umar Auwalu, 23, a nephew of the deceased, who reportedly admitted leading the attack.
According to the statement, the approved package includes sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, the allocation of a new house, and continued government assistance to help the bereaved father restart his life.
Governor Yusuf also directed the state attorney general to fast-track the prosecution of those arrested over the killings.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking, the governor assured the family of the government’s full support. He said a suitable house would be provided for Bashir and that his welfare would be taken care of, including assistance should he choose to remarry.
The governor stressed that justice would be served, noting that anyone found guilty would be dealt with according to the law.
It was also reported that the bereaved father donated his personal house to the state government for the establishment of an Islamiyya school.
