The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reduced the mandatory bank guarantee for private Hajj operators from ₦250 million to ₦100 million following concerns raised by the Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHOUN).
In a letter dated August 3, 2026, the commission acknowledged receiving AHOUN’s appeal over the newly introduced operational guidelines and the ₦250 million bank guarantee requirement for the 2027 Hajj operations.
NAHCON said it carefully reviewed the association’s submissions, particularly concerns over the financial feasibility and operational implications of the policy under the current economic conditions.
The commission stated that the downward review to ₦100 million is aimed at balancing industry concerns with its commitment to safeguarding Nigerian pilgrims, promoting transparency in service delivery and raising professional standards across the Hajj industry.
The letter, signed by Hafsatu Baba Tela for the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, conveyed the commission’s appreciation to the association and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing reforms for the 2027 Hajj operations.
