The report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs clearing Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf for appointment as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has been laid before the Senate for final confirmation.
The confirmation is expected to be taken at the next plenary session.
Yusuf was screened by the committee a few days ago at the National Assembly during a session presided over by its chairman, Yahaya Sani Bello. He responded to questions on his qualifications, administrative experience, and strategic priorities for the commission.
Lawmakers assessed his capacity to provide strategic direction, strengthen institutional governance, and improve operational efficiency within NAHCON.
After deliberations, the committee cleared the nominee and recommended his confirmation, describing him as suitably qualified to reposition the commission and stabilise its operations.
The committee commended President Bola Tinubu for the nomination, noting that it reflects a commitment to strengthening the management of Hajj affairs.
If confirmed by the Senate, Yusuf will assume office as substantive chairman of NAHCON.
