JAKARTA — Indonesia has secured a major accommodation complex in Makkah’s Thakher City through a $500 million acquisition, establishing dedicated facilities for up to 23,000 Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
The purchase includes the Novotel Thakher City hotel with 4,400 rooms across three towers and approximately five hectares of adjacent land for future development.
Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani announced the acquisition Wednesday at Jakarta’s presidential palace, confirming the state investment body Danantara Indonesia completed the transaction.
The property lies approximately 2.5 kilometers from the Masjid al Haram (Grand Mosque), with accessibility expected to improve upon completion of the Al-Hujun tunnel or bridge connection in 2026.
“The distance from this area to the Masjid al-Haram is only about 2.5 kilometers,” Roeslani stated.
