Makkah, Saudi Arabia – September 11, 2025 –
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has officially launched the “Eashathon” food-service challenge, a new initiative designed to improve the quality, safety, and innovation of meals served to millions of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah.
The competition brings together local chefs, food suppliers, and to develop creative solutions that address the unique dining needs of pilgrims, particularly during the intense peak periods of worship. Organizers say the project is part of the Kingdom’s broader efforts to modernize Hajj services, ensure health standards, and enhance the overall spiritual journey.
“Our goal is to encourage innovation in food preparation and delivery so that pilgrims receive safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate meals,” a Ministry spokesperson said.
The challenge will focus on areas such as food safety, portion control, packaging, and sustainability. Participants are encouraged to design meal options that balance tradition with modern health standards, while also ensuring quick distribution to large crowds.
The “Eashathon” is expected to set new benchmarks for food services during major Islamic gatherings, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 program which aims to improve the Hajj and Umrah experience for worshippers from across the globe.
