After leaving Arafah, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ beautifully laughing. He was so taken back by the noble smile of Rasulallah ﷺ and his beauty that he asked, ‘May my mother and father be ransomed for you! What makes you smile?’
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘When the devil found out that Allah has forgiven my ummah, he picked up dust and began to throw it over his head out of despair — and he began to utter words of despair! When I saw his sadness (due to my ummah being forgiven), I began to laugh.’ When our teachers would recite this hadith, they would instruct us to smile at the happiness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. No one loves us more than Rasulallah ﷺ.
