A Nigerian pilgrim from Plateau State, Hajiya Zainab, has earned widespread praise after returning $5,000 (approximately ₦8.24 million) she found at Masjid AL Haram in Makkah to its rightful owner.

The heartwarming act of integrity occurred during the 2025 Hajj, drawing commendations from pilgrims and officials. Despite the significant value of the money, equivalent to over ₦8 million, Hajiya Zainab demonstrated remarkable honesty and handed the money over without hesitation.

The Plateau State Pilgrims Welfare Board, led by Executive Secretary Hon. Daiyabu Dauda, alongside Amirul Hajj Emir Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, Board Chairman Alhaji Dan Ladi Kwari, and other senior delegates, commended her for her exemplary character.

Her action has been hailed as a reflection of the true Islamic values of trustworthiness and moral uprightness, and many have called on other pilgrims to emulate her conduct.

“This is the kind of character we pray every pilgrim upholds. Hajiya Zainab has brought pride not just to Plateau but to the entire Nigerian contingent,” said a statement from the board.
