The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the immediate closure of payments for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in a move aimed at preventing oversubscription and ensuring a smooth exercise.
In a press release dated January 6, 2026, PAOG said the decision was taken to effectively manage pilgrim numbers in line with Ghana’s approved Hajj quota and to avoid administrative and operational challenges often associated with excess registrations.
The office explained that oversubscription in previous years had led to backlogs and logistical difficulties, stressing that closing payments at this stage would help guarantee an orderly, well-coordinated and successful pilgrimage.
“Managing pilgrim numbers within approved limits remains critical to delivering a safe, efficient and successful Hajj,” the statement said, adding that the measure was taken in the best interest of prospective pilgrims and the country.
PAOG assured that the decision would ensure that all pilgrims who have completed payment are successfully airlifted to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj.
The agency advised intending pilgrims who were unable to complete payment before the closure to make plans for subsequent Hajj arrangements, while cautioning the public against individuals claiming they could still secure slots for this year’s pilgrimage.
PAOG urged members of the public to seek clarification only through its official communication channels.
