Passengers Allege Discrimination by Air Peace at Abuja Airport

Some stakeholders have raised concerns over alleged discriminatory treatment of passengers by Air Peace at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following the circulation of a viral video.

In the video, passengers travelling to Kano were reportedly asked to disembark from an aircraft due to a technical issue, only to later witness Lagos-bound passengers being prioritised for boarding on a replacement aircraft, while Kano passengers were directed back to the initially rejected plane.

One of the affected passengers alleged that the airline cited a lighting fault before asking them to disembark, but later reassigned the same aircraft to them after allocating a different one to Lagos-bound travellers.

The development has sparked reactions among stakeholders, some of whom described the incident as discriminatory.

A stakeholder, Hasaan Saleh questioned the airline’s conduct, noting that Air Peace had been transporting Hajj pilgrims without being discriminated against it for being an airline owned by someone with a different faith. Another frequent traveller also alleged that similar experiences had occurred in the past.

Some stakeholders warned that the situation could lead to calls for a review of the airline’s role in airlifting Hajj pilgrims if corrective steps are not taken.

However, the airline denied the allegations. Head of Public Relations, Efe Whiskey, described the claims as “a shocking narrative,” insisting that staff are trained to treat passengers with courtesy and professionalism at all times.
