Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Monday bid farewell to 1,134 Plateau pilgrims heading for the 2026 Hajj, urging them to be “worthy ambassadors” of the state and Nigeria. “We entrust you to the protection of God Almighty… guide you safely to your destination and bring you back in peace,” he said.

Of the pilgrims, 570 were sponsored by the state and 564 are self-sponsored, according to Pilgrims Board boss Alhaji Daiyabu Dauda. He hailed Mutfwang for giving the Board its first permanent office in over 40 years, plus free ihram garments, hijabs, and vehicles.

Amirul Hajj Rt. Hon. Idris Wase told pilgrims to “remain law-abiding, prayerful, and cooperative,” noting Mutfwang “has demonstrated remarkable love… toward the Muslim community.” Intending pilgrims pledged “unreserved support” to the governor.

Mutfwang also warned “merchants of crisis” against undermining Plateau’s peace, as his administration pushes religious harmony under the “Time is Now” agenda.
