Complaints about fraudulent calls should be reported to law enforcement
The Bangladesh Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a cautionary alert over fraudulence on hajj refunds, as several groups of fraudsters are active in the country. “The Ministry of Religious Affairs has requested all to be careful against such fraudulent circles,” said a ministry press release on Saturday.
It said that a group of fraudsters, exposing themselves as ministry officials, are calling Hajjis, owners or representatives of Hajj agencies as well as Hajj guides asking for information about their debit or credit cards, bKash or Nagad wallets.
Meanwhile, a very few incidents of fraudulence have also taken place following this way.
It is mentionable that the refund money from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to Hajjis, Hajj agencies and Hajj guides is sent directly to the bank through BEFTN or cheque.
No information of debit or credit card, bKash and Nagad wallet is required for it. The ministry has requested all not to give any such information when fraudsters call for a refund.
In addition, it has also been advised to complain in writing to law enforcement agencies about such calls.
Earlier, the ministry requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to take legal action in this regard.
