Rabat – The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced on Monday that the second phase of the fee payment for the upcoming Hajj season, which targets individuals on the waiting list, will begin on September 15.

The ministry said the process will be ongoing until September 19, adding that certified checks will be accepted.

Applicants on the waiting lists will replace those who were unable to settle the Hajj fees in the initial phase, the ministry said.  Those selected from the waiting list will have to undergo a medical examination that confirms their physical and mental fitness to perform Hajj rituals.

Selected candidates will then have to present the certificate to the Ministry of Interior’s services to obtain a selection receipt.

The applicants also have to pay the Hajj fees in a single installment at the Al Barid Bank agencies that are available across Morocco.

The Royal Commission in charge of Hajj recommended that selected candidates will have to pay an approximate amount of MAD 65,000 or $7,258.

The final cost of Hajj will still be determined at a later date, whether higher or lower.

In 2023, Morocco announced an increase of $312 in Hajj cost, which was implemented as of the 2024 season.

Around 34,000 Moroccans participated in last year’s Hajj, out of the two million total that performed the ritual.

Astronomical forecasts show that Hajj 2026 will take place in May this year.
