The chairman and chief executive officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Professor Lanre Yusuf Badmas, a former commissioner for operations of the commission.

Professor Badmas died at the age of 69 after a brief illness.

In a statement on Friday, Usman described the late scholar as a pioneer leader whose contributions laid the foundation for NAHCON’s operational structure and strengthened the commission’s capacity to support Nigerian pilgrims during the Hajj.

He noted that Badmas served as the inaugural commissioner for operations at a critical stage in the commission’s development, where he helped build the Department of Pilgrims Affairs into a key operational pillar of NAHCON.

According to the chairman, the late professor brought scholarly depth, professional discipline and institutional integrity to the commission, while his guidance played a significant role in shaping policy frameworks and operational strategies that continue to define NAHCON’s service delivery.

Usman also described Badmas as an erudite scholar and strategic visionary whose leadership improved pilgrims’ welfare and spiritual preparedness.

On behalf of the board, management and staff of NAHCON, the chairman extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Kwara State government, his colleagues and the Muslim community, praying for Allah’s mercy upon his soul and strength for those he left behind.
