Nasarawa Pilgrims Board Seeks Permanent Hajj Camp Near Kwandare Airport

The Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has called for the establishment of a permanent Hajj Camp near the proposed airport in Kwandare to improve future pilgrimage operations.

The request was made by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mallam Idris Ahmed Almakura, during the Board’s budget defence before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Pilgrimage for the 2026 fiscal year.

Mallam Almakura said the facility would play a vital role once the airport begins airlifting pilgrims. He noted that a purpose-built camp close to the airport would help streamline processing, accommodation, medical checks, documentation, and transportation of intending pilgrims.

“The establishment of a Hajj Camp around the airport in Kwandare is not just a necessity but a strategic imperative for the future of Hajj operations in our state,” he said. “It will centralize our pre-departure activities in a purpose-built environment, reduce stress on pilgrims, and improve our service delivery.”

Chairman of the House Committee on Pilgrimage, Hon. Aliyu Ibrahim Nana, commended the Board for what he described as transparent and diligent management of pilgrimage affairs. He also acknowledged the relevance of the proposal to the long-term success of Hajj operations in the state.

The Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board said it remains committed to ensuring a smooth and spiritually rewarding Hajj experience for pilgrims in line with global best practices and directives from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
