The Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board has intensified its mandatory medical screening exercise for intending pilgrims ahead of the 2026 Hajj across the state’s 25 local government areas.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Jibrin Usman Kodo. He said the exercise, which was recently flagged off at the Minna General Hospital, has recorded impressive participation and cooperation from intending pilgrims statewide.
According to the statement, the screening is in line with the directive of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), which mandated all state pilgrims’ welfare boards to conduct compulsory medical examinations for prospective pilgrims before the pilgrimage.
The board said the medical tests are being conducted simultaneously at general hospitals in all local government areas to ensure accessibility and efficiency. Monitoring reports from Area Pilgrims’ Welfare Officers indicated that the process has been largely hitch-free, with high turnout and strong commitment among intending pilgrims.
The board urged all intending pilgrims yet to undergo the screening to do so promptly before the exercise concludes, as preparations for the 2026 Hajj continue.
