Unutilised Quota: Saudi Arabia renege plan to cut Indonesian 2026 Hajj Quota by 50 percent

The Hajj Organizing Body (BP) ensures that the Government of Saudi Arabia cancels the discourse of cutting Indonesia’s hajj quota by up to 50 percent, after expressing confidence in the management of Hajj by the Government of Indonesia through the establishment of the Hajj Organizing Agency.

Deputy Head of the Hajj Organizing Agency, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, said the discourse on reducing quotas had developed internally at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia following an evaluation of the implementation of the pilgrimage this year.

“The discourse developed because they wanted to give a kind of warning. They assessed that this year’s Hajj from Indonesia was not optimal,” Dahnil said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 11.

According to him, the proposed cutting of the quota appears as a form of anticipation so that the problems that occur in the 2025 Hajj season do not happen again in the upcoming year.

However, the results of a discussion between BP Haji represented by the Head of BP Haji Mohammad Irfan Yusuf and the Saudi Arabian authorities stated that the discourse would not continue.

“They told us that Saudi Arabia still has great trust in Indonesia, especially in President Prabowo,” he said.

This trust, said Dahnil, is based on the President’s move to form a special institution to handle the implementation of Hajj in a more professional and focused manner.

“The president has formed a new management in the form of a Hajj organizing body. This shows Indonesia’s commitment to improving Hajj governance,” he said.

Dahnil emphasized that the public does not need to worry about the issue of cutting the quota. The government will fully oversee so that Indonesia’s Hajj quota does not decrease.

“What is clear is that the President and those of us who are assigned will ensure that the quota is not cut. In fact, we hope that in the future the quota can be increased,” he said.

The discourse of cutting the hajj quota has become a hot topic of conversation in the community. Because, if this happens, it will extend the waiting period for Indonesian pilgrims. In a number of places, the waiting period can last up to 25 years.
