Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima will attend the second edition of the National Hajj Stakeholders Summit as Special Guest of Honour on Wednesday, 30th of April, 2025, at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
Organized by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in collaboration with the Hajj Institute of Nigeria (HIN), this year’s summit is themed “Sustainable Hajj Financing: Developing a Resilient Model for Nigerian Pilgrims and Operators.” It aims to bring together leaders in Hajj management and Islamic finance to develop lasting financial solutions for Hajj operations in Nigeria.
NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman, will serve as the Chief Host, while His Royal Highness the Sultan of Sokoto, senior Federal and State Government officials, National Assembly members, and industry experts are also expected to attend.
Announcing the summit, Professor Muhammad Nasiruddeen Maiturare, Rector of HIN, disclosed that a Steering Committee chaired by HIN’s Deputy Rector, Professor Wasiu O. Gabadeen, has been constituted to oversee the event’s preparations. The committee includes top personnel from NAHCON’s Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS), Protocol, Media, and other critical units.
Key issues to be discussed at the summit include: Building a self-financing Hajj framework; Enhancing financial oversight and risk management; Safeguarding pilgrims’ funds through transparency and accountability; Leveraging digital platforms for payments and savings.
The summit will feature four technical sessions led by panels of seven experts each, offering practical solutions to strengthen Nigeria’s Hajj financing model.
Highlighting the intellectual depth of the event, the keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Mansur Muhtar, former Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and current Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Industry (BOI). He will share his wealth of experience in the managing of Islamic finances.
Participants will include State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, licensed Hajj operators, Islamic finance bodies, fintech companies, and key regulatory institutions.
Organizers express optimism that the summit will serve as a springboard for building a resilient, transparent, and inclusive Hajj financial system in Nigeria, securing the future of pilgrims and operators alike.
