The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has explained that his resignation from office was based purely on personal reasons.
Professor Usman, who announced his decision in a statement on Tuesday, said the resignation takes effect from Monday, February 9, 2026. He noted that the decision followed deep reflection, prayers, and consultations with his family, stressing that it was taken in good conscience and with respect for public service.
According to him, his formal resignation was submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in line with Section 3(6) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2006. He emphasized that his decision was not due to any dissatisfaction with NAHCON, the Federal Government, or the Commission’s mandate.
The former NAHCON chairman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, and to Vice President Kashim Shettima for his guidance and support. He also thanked members of the NAHCON Board, management and staff, as well as state pilgrims’ welfare agencies, tour operators, aviation service providers, and Saudi Arabian partners for their cooperation.
Professor Usman prayed for divine guidance for the new leadership of NAHCON and for future Nigerian pilgrims to be granted a successful and accepted Hajj.
