Press Release
The Yobe Pilgrims Commission officially flagged off the vaccination exercise for 2025 Hajj intending pilgrims on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, at the Yobe State Primary Health Care (NPI) office in Gwange, Damaturu.
The event, led by the Honorable Permanent Member (1), Alhaji Adam Arjo Kayeri, representing the Chairman, Alhaji Mai Aliyu Usman, marked a crucial step in the ongoing preparations for the Hajj.
In his opening address, Alhaji Adam Arjo Kayeri reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of all pilgrims:
“This vaccination exercise underscores our readiness for a successful 2025 Hajj. Safeguarding the health of our pilgrims is both a requirement and a responsibility. I urge all pilgrims to cooperate fully, adhere to health guidelines, and maintain prayerfulness as they prepare for this sacred journey.”
He further stressed the importance of compliance and preparation: “I encourage you to be law-abiding and patient throughout the Hajj process. Please ensure attendance at all scheduled enlightenment lectures, as these will provide essential knowledge on the rites of Hajj and practical guidance for the journey ahead.”
In a symbolic display of the Commission’s dedication, Alhaji Adam personally monitored the vaccination exercise and administered the first dose to an intending pilgrim.
Dr. Umar Chiroma, Director of Disease and Control Immunization, representing the Executive Secretary of Primary Health Care, Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina, provided critical insights about the vaccination process. He highlighted the importance of the vaccines being administered, which include the meningitis vaccine, oral polio vaccine, and yellow fever vaccine.
“These vaccinations are mandatory under the health regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The yellow fever vaccine is valid for ten years, while the meningitis vaccine lasts three years. They are essential for protecting both individual and public health.”
He also addressed potential side effects, advising pilgrims to seek immediate medical attention if they experience severe or prolonged symptoms.
The vaccination exercise began immediately after the opening remarks, with medical personnel ensuring a smooth and professional process. The event was well-organised, boosting the confidence of pilgrims and reinforcing public trust in the Commission’s preparedness for the Hajj operations.
This flag-off ceremony marks the start of a comprehensive vaccination rollout across all 17 local government areas, emphasising the Commission’s unwavering commitment to the safety, well-being, and spiritual fulfilment of all Yobe pilgrims embarking on the 2025 Hajj.
