The Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has appealed to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to increase the number of Hajj slots allocated to the state for the 2026 pilgrimage.

Director of Educational Enlightenment of the board, Hashimu Sadiq, made the appeal in an interview on Monday in Bauchi, stating that the 2,600 slots currently earmarked for the state would be inadequate to meet rising demand.

Sadiq noted that Bauchi fully utilised the 2,516 slots allocated for the 2025 Hajj, reflecting strong interest and commitment among residents.

“The number of intending pilgrims for 2026 has increased significantly. We are therefore requesting an upward review of the allocation to accommodate our people,” he said.

He disclosed that the board had concluded key welfare and logistical preparations, including medical support and accommodation arrangements in Mecca.

“Five houses have been secured close to the Holy Mosque to ensure easier access and comfort for our pilgrims,” Sadiq said.

According to him, visa processing is progressing smoothly, with immunisation being the final requirement before departure procedures are completed.

He urged intending pilgrims to remain calm and cooperative, assuring them of the board’s commitment to their safety, welfare and a spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage.
