The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has reaffirmed its resolve to deepen collaboration with aviation and security agencies to ensure seamless Hajj operations for pilgrims from the state.

In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Dederi, the Director General of the board, Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Regional General Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.

Matawalle said the engagement was aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and security coordination during the Hajj airlift.

“Synergy between our institutions is critical to guaranteeing a smooth and secure travel experience for our pilgrims,” he said.

Responding, Regional General Manager of the airport, Musa Okikiri, described the visit as strategic and timely. He disclosed that the airport’s Hajj terminal would undergo full renovation ahead of the 2026 airlift, following approval by the federal government.

In a related move, the board’s delegation also visited the Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to reinforce cooperation on screening and clearance procedures.

Matawalle urged the command to support public enlightenment campaigns, particularly through radio programmes, to educate intending pilgrims on prohibited and contraband items.

“We must work together to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure compliance with regulations,” he stated.

Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Administration, S.S. Shehu, assured the board of full cooperation, pledging efficient processing of pilgrims while maintaining strict adherence to customs guidelines.

The visits, according to the board, reflect its proactive approach to inter-agency collaboration ahead of the forthcoming Hajj exercise.
