The Niger State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and the Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board over the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The resolution followed the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Religious Affairs, which commended the governor for providing the support that ensured a smooth pilgrimage operation and praised the Pilgrims Welfare Board for its performance.

Lawmakers noted that the welfare of the 2,281 pilgrims from Niger State improved significantly during the exercise, with adequate feeding, medical care, and accommodation provided throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia.

The Assembly also recalled that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) recognised the Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board as the best-performing pilgrims board in the country during the 2026 Hajj operation.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, described the exercise as the state’s most successful and hitch-free Hajj operation and applauded all stakeholders involved.

In a separate resolution, the Assembly called on the Niger State Government to urgently facilitate the deployment of military personnel and other security agencies to communities in Mashegu Local Government Area facing repeated attacks by terrorists and armed bandits.

The House adopted a motion sponsored by the member representing Mashegu Constituency, Hon. Alhassan Isah, warning that the security situation in the area requires immediate intervention to protect lives and property.

The Speaker disclosed that efforts were ongoing to establish a Forward Operating Base in Baba Rami and other strategic locations to strengthen security and restore peace in the affected communities.
