Hajj 2023 Refund: ICPC team visit Home Affairs Ministry, to partner with Osun Muslim Pilgrims Board in Disbursement

In a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the disbursement of refund to cover services that were not either partially or completely unavailable to the 2023 self-sponsored Hajj pilgrims,a team from the anti-graft commission, Independence Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) took a proactive step with a working visit to the ministry of Home Affairs.

Receiving the Commission’s team,the Commissioner for Home Affairs,Hon.Rasheed Aderibigbe said the move became necessary to achieve the goal of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Speaking further,the Commissioner reiterated the commitment and cooperation of the ministry with the anti-graft Commission to bolster the effort of the Osun Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in promoting ethical practice in pilgrim welfare and management.

According to the Commissioner “We recognize the importance of ensuring refunds to our pilgrims from the state for unrendered services for 2023 Hajj operation by NAHCON are handled with the utmost integrity.

“Our collaboration with the anti-graft agency is a testament to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s dedication to providing a fair and swift refund process,”he stated.

 Also speaking,the Chairman Osun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board,Alhaji Moruf Olawale Ishola highlighted the efforts of the Board in facilitating a smooth refund process for pilgrims.

“We have made significant progress in preparing for the refund disbursement.Our staff is working diligently to ensure that every eligible pilgrims receives their funds promptly,”he explained.

Earlier,in his remarks,the Executive Secretary of the Board,Mr Muritala Fakunle provided an update on the board’s initiatives, detailing the step taken to ensure proper documentation and accountability in the refund that will cover various services that were not rendered to Osun State Pilgrims in fair compensation for their pilgrimage.”

“Transparency is key. We have implemented a robust system to inform our concerned Pilgrims and we are committed to working with the ICPC to uphold these standards,”he said.

Reacting,the Assistant Chief Superintendent of the Commission ,Mr Sulyman Laaro expressed the anti-graft ‘s commitment to supporting the state government in ensuring that all refunds are processed efficiently and transparently.”Our role is to provide oversight and guidance.

Together,we can ensure that the interest of the pilgrims are protected,”he noted.

He reiterated that oversight from the ICPC is not only to ensure accountability but also boost the confidence of Pilgrims in the system.

The Acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs Adenike Oladimeji in her remarks eulogized the present administration for its support to the ministry while thanking the leader of the team for their visit.

Other members of the anti-graft Commission’s  team during the visit were Assistant Superintendent Okebukola Oluwafeyikemi, Anti-corruption Assistant Yisa Fahm among others.
