The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, has said ongoing reforms in Saudi Arabia’s Hajj and Umrah sector will create significant business opportunities for Nigerian private tour operators.
Yusuf stated this at the 2026 Annual Hajj Lecture organised by Independent Hajj Reporters, with the theme, “Exploring Business Opportunities in the Hajj and Umrah Ecosystem.”
He said the Hajj and Umrah industry was undergoing one of the biggest structural transformations of the generation, with emerging opportunities spanning travel, healthcare, hospitality, finance, technology and related services.
The chairman said NAHCON had been engaging the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah through diplomatic and official channels to ensure that emerging policies were properly examined and aligned with Nigeria’s cultural realities and administrative structures.
He commended Independent Hajj Reporters for providing a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the pilgrimage industry, stressing that collaboration and professionalism would be crucial to navigating the changing landscape.
At the event, awards were presented to the Pilgrims Welfare Boards of Borno, Jigawa, FCT, Adamawa, Ondo and Bauchi states for outstanding performance during the 2026 Hajj operation.
Independent Hajj Reporters also recognised the contributions of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of an appointment letter to Namadi as Patron of Independent Hajj Reporters of Nigeria.
